Tennis, Transport and a Triumphant Return (with Wombles)

Rob W

Tonight‘s quiz had a pair of oddly interlocking themes. The first one was tennis, with questions about carpeted court surfaces and another question about Maria Sharapova, as well as a mention of Wimbledon (referring to The Wombles). The second theme was that of transport, with questions about the Glasgow Subway, the Humber Bridge, and French bicycles, as well as a reference to a certain uncle’s atlas (this also referring to The Wombles—their names being geographically inspired). Who knew the Venn diagram linking tennis and travel had a little sliver of Wombles in the middle? Ah, Wombles! Underground, overground…but I digress. In the end, Diamonds Are Made Under Pressure glittered with a winning sheen for the first time (and to great fanfare) taking home the pot. This was followed by a dramatic tie-break between and The Real Winners and Cane Party Associates—and in this case the Winners lived up to their name, claiming the bottle of wine. Hope to see everyone again soon, but until then, play safe and be kind.
