Tonight's quiz had a distinct air of 1984 to it, with questions about Prince's Purple Rain (released in the summer of 1984), the murder of Marvin Gaye (April 1, 1984) and VAT in China (instated that same year). Some of these topics may or may not be more thrilling than others. Value Added Tax history of the middle kingdom? Maybe that's your bag. I never judge. In the end, the largest team of the evening—They Who Shall Not Be Named—took the win with a thoroughly resounding 38, while Quizzly Bears took home a bottle of rosé thanks to bonus points won via their winning artistic impression of "Parliamentary Chaos".
