That's Right, Old Sport. A Quiz Gatsby Would Have Loved!

In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. 'Whenever you feel like having a bit of fun, find yourself a pub quiz and get involved.' Last night's quizzers could attest to this being sound advice as they wrestled with questions on raisins, Donald Trump's hobbies and netball. Despite exemplary knowledge of Pink’s song lyrics, “New Year, New Name” just missed the 2nd-from-last bottle of wine but did earn themselves the equally coveted (perhaps?) bag of chocolate coins. “Oche, Oche, Oche” (great Harry Potter expertise) got the wine, and were just one point behind “Fishermen’s Friends” (3 out of 3 on the tube stations!), and “Eye Hand Glove Van”, whose prize-winning team name was an obscure reference to a picture question from a quiz we did back in November! (Let it go, guys!) “Quizzee Rascals” just missed out on a podium position but impressed everyone with their niche knowledge of ants. Joint second were “S Club Parrty”, who were two points off a perfect first half score, and “Pass the Duchy”, whose gentle pedantry let everyone know their focus was not going to be broken. Only one point ahead of them were the winners, “Fake Quiz – Sad!”, who won the £40 bar tab. My word it was close. Next week we will run faster, stretch out our arms further.
