I do not mean to say this was an evening of jump cuts, filtered overlays and ecstatic violence. I merely mean I referred to the man twice, which is what constitutes a motif around here. Once: In describing how a rifle butt translates (cryptically) as"stock"—as in Lock, Stock, Et Cetera, Et Cetera. And twice: When Snatch was one of the answers. Motifs. I've got them. The Big Fact Hunt lived up to its name, snaring the big game—meaning the grand prize pot—while I Can't Say That Out Loud tippled down a bottle of white in return for coming second-to-last. Honourable mention to The Boizots, who not only came a close second but also entertained me après-quiz with stories of their storied backgrounds, ranging from Britain to France to Brazil to Bulgaria, then humoured me as I disgusted them with an old family recipe for jellied moose nose.
