The moment you realise the film Avatar is essentially Pocahontas in space

Charles C

Another thriller of a quiz, with the teams separated by just five points at half time, having learned that: Corona beer is from Mexico; Demi Moore's second husband was Bruce Willis; and, Hamelin was the town where the Pied Piper carried out his most famous pest control operation. Along the way I was also told that "only Muggles use the word 'dormitory'" (to mean a shared-occupancy bedroom at a boarding school). "We just called it a dorm."

The second half opened things up a little more, with a challenging lyrics question on Mark Ronson & Miley Cyrus' hit: 'Nothing Breaks Like A Heart' and a tricky anagram of 'Oscar Wilde'. We also learned that the all-female ISS spacewalk has already happened; eagles keep their young in 'eyries'; and, that the film Avatar is essentially Pocahontas in space (I only recently found out she died in Gravesend in Kent. Was that in the Disney film?).

Come full-time, "Mayor Quizby" just missed the bottle of wine but did earn my points-per-person accolade and a bag of consolation-no-expense-spared-Lidl midget gems. Just ahead of them, earning the second-from-bottom bottle of wine, came "Poutine Patrol, eh?", having done very well to identify the 50:50 face split of Trevor Noah AND Sean Astin.

There were solid performances from "Guys, we need a team name", "Foregone Conclusion" and "One Of Us Is A Female Good Bloke (Free Nelson Mandela)" - who all got 3-from-3 on the cryptic tube station question. Just missing a podium position were "The Slack-Jawed Yokels" (a nice reference to the question about Cletus from The Simpsons) and "Bailey's Baltimore Brigade", who knew that paleobotany is the study of fossilised plants.

With just two points between the top three teams, the atmosphere was tensely intense and intensely tense as I read out the final scores. Winning bronze were (previous champions) Beer Express, who delivered another superb performance, even being able to identify the 90s boy-band East 17. Just ahead of them, taking silver, were (also past winners) "You'll Never Walk Malone", who did well to know that Windhoek is the capital of Namibia. Out in front, however, by just one more point, came "Peter Paper Picked A Pack Of Purple Post-Its", who were proficient on everything from Pixie Lott's fanclub being called 'The Crazy Cats' through to the logo for the outdoor clothing brand Patagonia. Unbelievable scenes.

"Mayor Quizby" got the closest guess to the world's heaviest egg laid (an ostrich laid a whopper of 2.589kg) but didn't choose the right envelope and the cold. hard. cash. eluded them. Still, it means there is a rollover for next week. Nearly £100 up for grabs. Someone just needs to come and win it. It could be you. But you've got to be there. #onlytheduchyarmshastheanswer
