As ever, we left no time to regret, kept our quiz wet (with well-poured drinks). In this week’s thrilling photo-finish of a quiz, we learnt: Sonic the Hedgehog’s real name is Ogilvie Maurice; Tanzania was formed when Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged; and, sunflowers always start the day facing east.

Come full-time, impressive duo “Quizzard Of Oz” just missed the wine but did win my points-per-person accolade. The second-from-bottom bottle of red went to “The 3 Full Fibre Fellas”, who were quick to identify the photo of the slow loris. Regular favourites “Quiz In My Pants” were next, with good knowledge (guessing?) that rhytiphobia is a fear of wrinkles. Just beyond them, drawing level, came the ever-impressive “The Court Supremes” and the ever-knowledgeable “Fake Quiz! Sad”, who both got 3-from-3 on the tube stations and the cartoon characters.

“Mambo Number 5s” took bronze, doing well on the celebrity identification questions. Joint equal for silver were “The Rt. Hn. QCs” and “Kit & Pals” who both got the Spice Girls anagram and three points on the Amy Winehouse – Back to Black lyrics question. Amazing work.

The tussle for first place could not have been closer. The two teams, who had become fierce rivals through the evening, faced off in a tie-breaker question on the date England formally became an ally with Portugal (1386 – Treaty of Windsor). “Jacob Leeks-Mogg” delivered a guess that was only 10 years out and secured the victory over “Pro-Rogue One”.

However, in a dynamic, dramatic twist, “Pro-Rogue One” won through to the jackpot round, getting the closest guess for the length of the world’s longest bridge (164.8km – in China, obviously). And, three correct higher-or-lower cards later they were £220 richer! The jackpot was theirs! Unbelievable scenes. Jackpot already nearly at £50 so there’s lots to play for. See you there.
