'No Leg to Stand On' Taste Sweet Victory at The Grapes

The Grapes is one of those iconic London pubs that live up to it welcoming, inclusive and fun reputation, as was shown by the packed house last night where teams new and old battled it out in the finest of spirits.

A total of 14 teams took part, with representation from countries such as Canada, the Cayman Islands, France, the U.S, and of course good old Blighty. It was a truly international affair, which was a good thing considering this weeks' quiz required a decent knowledge of happenings from around the world. We touched on sport; Do you know the great Pele's real name? 6 of our teams did. How is your European geography? Could you identify Slovenia on a blank map? 8 teams nailed that one. And if you were to make yourself a batch of mayonnaise, what would be your two main ingredients....well, as a matter of fact, this proved to be our most divisive question of the evening. I would have said Egg (yolk) and vinegar, however on announcing this answer at the end of round two, I was hit with a volley of shouts "OIL...OIL" they cried, and so I had to concede, Oil is indeed a vital ingredient in mayonnaise.

The atmosphere of the Monday night quiz at The Grapes cannot be overstated. It's the pub itself, it's the brilliant quiz, and it is most definitely the people - from the lovely staff to the lively punters.

The quiz was won this week by 'No Leg to Stand On', who managed a high score of 40 points, (and won a £50 bar tab at The Grapes), followed sharply by 'Sliced Alone' on 38. A special mention goes to 'Mad Dash for Strasbourg' - a one-man team who quizzed away to score 19 points and won himself a bottle of wine in the process.

The Jackpot was won this week by 'Commonwealth Secretariat' - after choosing from a colourful selection of cards they plucked out a blue envelope - opened it up, and found themselves £70 richer!
