Counting Pigeons.

An unusual situation last night at The Spice of LIfe's weekly Tuesday evening quiz with two teams level at the top score of 38 points and two teams on 37 points.
Now the problem was that there were only three cash prizes so inevitably, one team was going to lose out. A tie-break question was needed and the number of pigeons in Trafalgar Square when they were more plentiful seemed an ideal question to pose. Now before there was any culling to the pigeon numbers (the work being done by a Sparrow Hawk I believe), the estimated nuber of the birds was around 35,000, making quite a number of pigeons and quite a lot of mess!
Questionmaster Richard Linton asked the teams to provide their best guesstimate of numbers and after a lot of discussion and argument the four answers were 29,500,180,000, 152,000 and 60,000. Clearly the nearest to the correct number was 29,500 so the final result was a win for "DJ Pale" with "Bukkake Bears" in second place, "N Y E" in third place and for coming second to last a two person team "Normzy", was awarded a bottle of white wine.
If you don't believe the pigeon numbers, next time you're in Trafalgar Square, try counting them!!
