If you could capture the energy from the uproar following the revelation that the 'early-photo-of-a-celebrity' picture was Phil Collins, not Vladimir Putin, you could power the whole of the UK for a year. The intensity continued, though, as we learned that: yellow flowers signify friendship; Katy Perry's real name is Katheryn Hudson, and, 75% of the world's alcohol consumption is beer.
"Beer For The Migraine" just missed the wine but earned the Smarties and strong recognition for their knowledge of moons and their score on a points-per-person basis. The wine went to "The Quizzly Bears", returning - after a brief quiz hiatus - to demonstrate excellent recollection of David Gray's song 'Babylon'. Just ahead of them, "Leaky Radiators", with superb celebrity photo recognition, and "The OG's" - another much-anticipated return - who demonstrated outstanding film knowledge. One point beyond them, a bumper showing from regular legends: "Uncle Iain", who nailed the tube station questions perfectly. Wonder duo: "Top Ghost" won the points-per-person award, with another strong performance, particularly on the anagram. The two teams: “Futureman’s Facilities” and “Friendless Fishermen” (the result of a split of regular performers: “Fisherman’s Friends” finished on a very neat draw, just outside podium position, after a hot contest on apes, the lyrics question and the anagram. A three-way tie saw “Fake Quiz! Sad!”, “Beached” and “The Rookies” go head to head for the £40 bar tab. I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord! “The Rookies”, who have taken silver and bronze countless times over the weeks this year, got it exactly right that we first saw BBC Two on our screens in 1967. A delightfully deserved win. There must be something in their stars as “Top Ghost” won their second Duchy Arms jackpot in a matter of months.
