The unfortunate downside of quizzing in an open-air venue is that every so often when rain decides to fall down from the sky it has no roof upon which it can land and instead makes a beeline for our exposed heads and/or the A4 paper answer sheets, both of which would much prefer to remain dry.
Fortunately, it just so happens that Jimmi Jamz -- (informally: the venue that keeps on giving) -- has a small undercover area that makes for particularly intimate quizzing in smaller groups. And with the usual competition rugged up at home sipping on hot cocoa (boo!), those of us daring enough to quiz in these conditions huddled together and braved the elements in pursuit of all things trivial. This week's quiz featured the words 'ovine' and 'equine,' and as a longtime fan of the adjectives of suffix '-ine' relating to animal characteristics (canine, feline, ursine, vulpine, lupine, mucine, assinine, cancrine -- the list goes on!) I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to see these beloved indie descriptors beginning to make their appearance in the mainstream.
Congratulations to the Euroythmics for their win this evening, and thanks to all the competitors for coming out in spite of the frightful weather. We quiz rain, hail, or shine -- though let's be honest: we much prefer shine.
