Billing Questions

What are your payment terms?

Our terms are 28 days for weekly quiz events, with a deposit of 50% required for special events. We accept BACS / electronic payments only (unless in exceptional circumstances). A £35 cancellation fee applies to regular quizzes cancelled within 24 hours. Cancellations must be confirmed by email.

What types of payments do you accept?

We accept electronic BACS transfers only, with a preference for GoCardless.

How will I be invoiced?

Itemised invoices are usually sent by email at the start of the month following your event whether it's a one off, periodic or weekly event. The invoice will have VAT added on to it which some businesses and charities can claim back, according to their circumstances. Payment needs to be received within 28 days of the invoice date to avoid additional charges. The invoice will include details of Question One's bank account so that you can transfer the money easily and electronically.

Your Weekly Pub Quiz

What does our pub need to provide?

We provide all quizzing materials - pens, answer sheets, picture sheets and posters. We use your existing sound system or lend your a cordless microphone kit. You need to provide the prizes (bar vouchers, drinks or cash) which vary depending on your budget. We know from experience the importance of marketing, and expect that you will maintain your on-site promotion (A-boards, chalk boards, posters, flyers) and social spaces to promote the quiz. We will help wherever we can and our Quizmasters are alway on the lookout for opportunities to increase player numbers.

How long does it take to build a crowd?

Depending on the time of year and your venue, it takes up to 3 months to have a regular following. Quiz nights can range in size from 10 to 100, but once you have regular teams settled it's very consistent. Leading up to the launch, marketing is absolutely critical.

How does Question One market the quiz?

Both online and at your venue: we provide posters and flyer designs for your venue, we Tweet question clues directly to (or from) your venue, we advertise on Facebook, use Google keywords and other websites.

Are quizzes profitable?

We charge a scaled fee based on turnout, and we pass you all entry fees, so if 40 people play for £2 each, you have £80 on the night to finance your prizes and offset against the cost. Calculate the average spend of a quiz-punter burning brain calories all night and we’re sure you’ll notice a big difference to your bottom line.

How do we decide the, frequency, time and night of the week?

A weekly quiz as a regular fixture is great for players who can decide to attend at short notice without having to check schedules or ring your venue. In 12 years we have had only 2 monthly or bi-weekly quizzes that worked. Start times vary, with the most popular between 7-8pm. We can always delay the start if groups are running late or there are other delays. The most popular nights for quizzing are: Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday, but we also have some diamonds on Monday and Thursday.

Why do I need you when I can write and present a quiz myself ?

You can buy a quiz online for £1.50 and present it yourself, or spend 3 hours writing your own. Either way, the constant jeering may affect your confidence in the long-term. Our team writes fresh quizzes each week, market the quiz and find cover during holidays.
